about us
The Cathy Santonies are a subversive mix of riot grrrl & cock rock…now, don’t you wanna hear what that sounds like?
I might suggest, then, that you look for The Santonies at any of Chicago’s local rock clubs (like maybe The Hideout, Abbey Pub, Beat Kitchen, or The Mutiny). They’re probably playing sometime soon…maybe with a touring band like Girl in a Coma or a local band like Vortis, Team Band, or something equally awesome. Or, you could listen to their recordings on WHPK, WNUR, or listen for them on Local Anesthetic on WXRT. Or, if there’s some kind of queer and/or feminist music festival/benefit going on in Chicago, you might find them there.
Mojo and Radio Santoni started it years ago, creating tapes and tapes of rugged bedroom boombox recordings in southern Indiana. They moved it up north to Chicago and met up with Three Dollar Bill’s Jane Danger while working with Girls Rock! Chicago. One day, we scoped out a local show, saw Ms. Kaylee Preston beating on the drums with Rabble Rabble, and it was love at first sight. How romantic…
Mojo Santoni bangs out solid, catchy riffs and mindblowing solos in a way that will make you want to run home to mommy. She is joined on guitar by the illustrious Jane Danger, who will hypnotize you with steady rhythms and intricate lead lines. You could try if you wanted, but the band’s message of girl rock revolution is impossible to ignore because of Radio Santoni’s powerful and unique voice. And even if you don’t really *feel* like dancing, those thumping and crashing beats of Kaylee Preston are going to make you.
The Cathy Santonies–rock n roll is NOT dead.
The Cathy Santonies are:
Radio Santoni: vox/bass
Mojo Santoni: guitar/vox
Jane Danger: guitar/vox
Kaylee Preston: drums
Devastatingly dominant, raw rock and roll energy. No filters, no chasers, no censors. The Santonies put a sharp, dangerous, and incisive modern edge on all the core things that have always kicked ass about real rock music but They were afraid to teach you in school. If you haven’t seen a “living legend” in a while, nut up and go to one of these shows.
